A Day with Fani Mari: Wellness & Beauty Editor, Author & Certified Gua Sha Facialist
Since the early days of social media, there has always been a fascination with Beauty and Fashion Editors.
How did they get there? What did they study? And what does their daily routine look like?
This time, we spent the day with Fani Mari, a wellness and beauty editor, author, and certified Gua Sha Facialist,
to discover her secrets and learn more about her everyday routine.
1. The Secret to a Glowing Morning
“The ideal morning for me begins with a sense of calm”, says Fani.
She avoids checking her phone first thing in the morning, only using it to turn off her alarm.
“I make myself a matcha latte, as I avoid coffee, and spend some time reading my book".
The 5-minute journal is a consistent part of her morning ritual. Every day, she writes down three things she is grateful for, three things that would make her day great, and a few daily affirmations. As she shares, an added bonus is that she uses her LED face mask during her journaling routine.
“I also prefer working out in the morning because it gives me energy for the rest of the day", she adds.
2. Morning Skincare Routine
In recent years, Fani has embraced a minimal skincare routine.
In the morning, she rinses her face with cold water, applies an eye cream containing hyaluronic acid and vitamin C, then follows with a moisturizer and finishes with sunscreen, even on days when she stays at home.
3. Favorite Work Outfit
“I love wide-leg tailored trousers because they are both comfortable and elegant", she says.
She usually pairs them with a T-shirt or a shirt, adding a colorful sweater or blazer depending on the weather.
“It’s simple, effortless, and allows you to experiment with different textures or keep the look monochromatic", she explains.
4. Office bag essentials
On days when she works outside the house, her bag usually contains:
5. Go-To Snack for Busy Days
Although she loves sweets, her everyday choice is usually a more nourishing snack, such as energy balls.
6. Tips for Breaking into the Beauty Industry
"Be genuinely passionate about beauty".
Fani initially started in fashion and studied fashion journalism, but eventually found her true passion in the wellness and beauty industry.
"Take as many internships as possible.
Whether at magazines, brands, or even alongside photographers, internships will help you discover what suits you best" , she mentions.
"Write and read every day."
She further explains, "create your own platform, such as a blog or Substack, where you can share your work and develop your voice. Follow beauty editors you admire.
Read their articles regularly and study their writing style to improve your own skills".
"Build a portfolio.
Include articles, photoshoots, and collaborations. It may not be essential at the beginning, but it will be extremely valuable when applying for jobs", she emphasizes.
At last, she adds "Use LinkedIn strategically.
Share your thoughts, projects, and collaborations, and use the platform to discover opportunities that match your profile".
7. Favorite Thing to Do After Work
“Whenever I come home after a shoot, I like to cleanse the energy of my space using palo santo or incense”, Fani explains.
“When I work from home, I enjoy taking Joey, my dog, for a walk and then unwinding with a movie or a series alongside my husband. Simple and peaceful”.
One of her favorite hobbies is coloring. She enjoys spending time with coloring books, which allow her to disconnect and express her creativity.
However, as she admits, even that activity sometimes requires energy and, on those days, nothing compares to the simple pleasure of sitting on the couch and doing absolutely nothing.
